Cisco Certification

Certs, certs, certs... There's many out there, but which ones are the ones to go for? Obviously it should be one that's well-trusted. A certification from a company that an employer's never heard of isn't going to sound very impressive.

Well if you're going into networking, what better name to be certified with than Cisco itself? Cisco not only directly sells hardware and components to many companies across the globe, but is the owner of other product lines people may be familiar with (such as Linksys) and helps develop and maintain various networking technologies. Obviously given their broad persistent existence in the world of networking employers on the whole know that anybody certified by them has experience in networking.

Which of Cisco's certifications is the one to go for? CCNP, CCDA, CCNA, and the various CCNA subsets such as CCNA voice... while each certification obviously involves basic networking standards they revolve around specific areas of networking that mey or may not overlap. How do you know which is the one that appeals to you?

The CCNA is a certification that many people opt for initially, as it covers a broad range of networking information and is earned after passing two tests... but the other certifications cover specific areas of networking. A good resource to find out which certifications from Cisco cover which networking areas is Cisco's own site.
